Carolina Advocates for Gender Equity

CAGE works to eliminate gender biases and to build a positive community to discuss and brainstorm solutions to gender-based issues. We are a student organization at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, based out of the Campus Y, that strives to create gender-affirming spaces throughout campus.

Our meetings are Thursdays from 7-8 pm in Room 208 of the Campus Y.
about our Organization

Our Projects

Feminist Fridays

Feminist Fridays

Once monthly we host speakers from across campus and the community to lead discussions on feminist and gender-based issues.  These discussions look at campus issues in an intersectional manner to give all perspectives a platform to express themselves.
Gender-Neutral Bathrooms

Gender-Neutral Bathroom Campaign

Over 500 people signed our petition encouraging local businesses to have gender-neutral restrooms. See our list of businesses in Chapel Hill with single-stall gender-neutral restrooms!
Clothesline

Clothesline Project

The Clothesline Project showcases
t-shirts made at the Orange County Rape Crisis Center by survivors of sexual assault as a visual representation of their sexual trauma and healing.

Weekly Blog Post: Courtney Halverson
It seemed obvious by the time I got to college, especially at a place like UNC I would be surrounded by like-minded people heart-set on changing the world to be a better place. In hundreds of ways this is true, yet in others it’s not. It’s easy to say that people who believe different from you are backwards, bigoted, racist, homophobic etc. Here’s my thing with that, everyone has a right to their own opinions and I’m sure that they have some good (ish) reasons that at least make sense to them to back up what they believe...

Checking My Own Privilege: Grace Langley
As we all know, October 31st is around the corner and I am sure that many of us are bouncing around ideas for costumes. I absolutely love Halloween and all that it entails – tricks, treats, and especially costumes.  Do you want your costume to be scary, sexy, empowering, strong, or comical? There are so many options! Everyone wants their costume to be classic and original without being too off the grid. The bottom line – Halloween costumes are extremely difficult to plan.
