Feminist Fridays began when previous CAGE co-chairs Rachel Allen and Allison Eames were brainstorming ways to engage the student body in educational events about feminism. What came about was an interactive monthly lecture series on a range of issues. CAGE focuses on intersectionality during these lectures and seeks to center the most marginalized voices in our community. In the future, we hope to use these monthly events as anchors for discussions that we will continue at our meetings throughout the month. We hope to partner with other organizations to make the event a space where people can build connections and where all feel welcome. We also want to continue to focus on the intersectionality of feminism during these discussions.
The topic is typically related to the month in some way. For example, our discussion on Domestic Violence in Communities of Color took place during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and our What is Gender? event was during Transgender Awareness Week. |
